A Field Trip

We went to the Memphis Botanic Garden in November. We took a bus. We saw all kinds of trees. My favorite was the Chinese Chestnut tree. We picked up all kinds of seeds. We made a human tree,too. We gathered up newspaper and other stuff and made paper. We learned about evergreen and deciduous trees, too.

Parts of a Tree

Roots - suck up water and minerals from the rain when it falls on the ground

Bark - protects the tree like armor

Branches - hold the leaves and they have tunnels for water to pass from the roots, up through the trunk to the leaves

Phloem - the inner bark carries the food from the other parts of the tree

Cambium - the layer that forms new wood

Leaves - they make food from water, carbon dioxide and sunlight. This gives us oxygen.

Tree Paintings

We made tree paintings in art class with Ms. Labens. We had lots of fun doing the paintings. They looked really good at the end. We hung them up in the room.
