Life on the Mayflower

Life on the Mayflower was difficult. The children were not allowed to talk. If an adult spoke to them, they could talk. The children were only allowed to take two toys. They had nasty food like hardtack and salt horse. When the water went bad, they had to drink beer. They did not have any bathrooms. The Pilgrims and the sailors were not friends. By the end of the trip, their clothes were stinky, torn up and dirty. The Pilgrims and sailors sailed for a long time.

Life on the Mayflower

Life on the Mayflower was difficult. Pilgrims had horrid food. They had to sleep together on the floor. They had to bring Bibles and clothes and dolls. Pilgrims had to eat meat and cheese and butter and bread. Some of them got sick. It was cold.

Making Candles

During colonial times, there was no electricity. The people had to use candles for light. They had to make them, because there were not any places to buy them. Our student teacher and a parent helped us make candles. First, we asked our parents for old candles to recycle. Then, the adults melted the candles. There was red wax and white wax. We put a wick in the melted wax. Then, we dipped it in water to cool the wax. We did that in a pattern. We dipped in groups of ten. We dipped fifty times, in all. After dipping we let them cool off. We made clay candleholders for the candles. We let them harden over the weekend. Then, we decorated the candleholders and gave them to someone special for Christmas.
